When Did You Become A Follower Of Jesus Christ? I had just moved to Florida in August of 1988 looking for the American dream, a house and a better life for my children and wife. Six months later, two men from Central Fellowship Baptist Church came to my home and witnessed to me about the love of Jesus. That night, in January of 1989, I came to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and three months later my family and I were baptized.
Describe Your Daily Walk With The Lord My daily goal is to spend more time with God than I do with any thing else that day. My devotional is something that comes from my Bible reading each morning, and I try to think on that one thing all day memorizing that verse. I make every opportunity to speak with God throughout the day.
What Does Your Position Entail? I am Senior Pastor of the Spanish Mission Iglesia Bautista Nuevo Comienzo at the First Baptist Church of Sanford. My responsibilities are to oversee all the ministries and to teach and preach the word of God while transforming lives into service for the kingdom of God. I work closely with Pastor Wendell as unpaid member of a great staff at First Baptist Sanford.
This is My Family When I was dating Nancy, we were passing by a Christian bookstore and I jokingly said to her, "One day we will be doing the church thing," as I pointed to the Bibles in the window. Who knew years later we would come to accept Jesus as our Savior and both of us would be called into the ministry? God has blessed us with two girls and a boy, two great sons-in-law, four grandsons, and a precious granddaughter on the way.
What Education Preparations Have You Made? High School I took a GED test scoring very well, but I went into the US Army and finished my High School diploma in August 1977 College I graduated with a Bachelors' Degree and honors in Biblical Studies from Baptist College of Florida, Graceville, Fl in May of 2004 Graduate School I am currently working on my Masters in Divinity degree through New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, then I will pursue my doctorate.
What Previous Ministries have you been part of? January of 1991 was the year our church began the Spanish ministry. My daughter taught the children Sunday school and I taught the adults. Most of the Spanish people were transients. When I moved my membership to Palmetto I waited for God's direction which came a couple of years later. I started another Spanish mission with ten people who were not my family. A few years later I started the new work at FBC Sanford.
What Music Do You Listen To And Who Are Your Favorite Musicians? I like a variety of music. I listen to gospel, hymns, contemporary, and just about anything that is audible. I like to listen to Casting Crowns, Mandisa, David Crowder Band, Michael W. Smith, Mercy Me, and Third Day. These are just a few of my faves.
What are some of the things the Lord is teaching you? God is teaching me to have more patience while relying on him to work behind the scenes to prepare the way for his work to be accomplished. The Lord has also been working on my prayer life, making it better all the time. Thanking Him more for each and everything he provides or not. And lastly, He is teaching me to enjoy a few moments without feeling guilty about not doing ministry 24/7. I am blessed to have a great wife who loves me in spite of my perfections (lol) and (did I mention?) two girls who serve him in ministry whose husbands are saved and serving with their wives, four grandsons who are awesome and one granddaughter almost here. GOD IS GREAT!!!
